At 15, Morten Andersen was by all means not supposed to be in clubs—far too young, with absolutely no photo credentials. But luckily, he headed out into the Oslo night to shoot whoever was playing downtown. The result was superb photography documenting a vital era in the city’s music scene.
This exhibition presented rare music moments captured during the 1980s, when Andersen started his career shooting for fanzines and later the national music press. His lens captured Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, Turboneger, Public Image Ltd, The Pogues, Johnny Thunders, David Johansen, Dum Dum Boys, Billy Bragg, Björk, Suicide, Imperiet, Thåström, Leonard Cohen, Jeffrey Lee Pierce, Jokke & Valentinerne, Backstreet Girls, The Residents, and R.E.M., among others.
The exhibition was a rare exception, as Andersen’s focus today is art photography, with several excellent books published. It took time to persuade him to revisit his early days as a rockhead with only one mission: to be a photographer.
The works were available as unique prints—no series, just one of each photo—framed and ready to go at affordable prices.
